WHAT SEPARATES CHURCH MEMBERS FROM DISCIPLES (SERVANT LEADERS/MINISTERS) (Part One)
How do we know our church members are growing into disciples, ministers and servant-leaders as Jesus instructed in Matthew 28:19-20 - ‘GO MAKE DISCIPLES I.e. raise leaders not just followers.’
I. Members when left to just remain as church members just coming to church without teaching, training, discipleship, taking responsibility, involvement, commitment etc. just make themselves or live just for themselves.
Disciples and leaders are full of the word, share their faith with others, win souls, establish them in Christ, in the faith, in the kingdom with kingdom values and priorities, settle them in the local church and make other disciples.
II. Members when left just as members without being empowered, taught, trained, fed spiritually, cared for, equipped, transformed by the Word and prayer into disciples, are there just for what to get but servant leaders are there for what to give and to pour into others.
"It is more blessed to give than to receive" - Acts 20:35
III. Members when left just as members are need-minded but disciples, servant leaders and servant ministers and ‘disciplers’ of others are seed-minded.
IV. Members when left as just members just sit in the pews.
Leaders step out of church and pews to reach others and bring them into the fold (John 10:16; Luke 14:23)
V. Members Come to get ministered to and entertained
Servant leaders and disciples come to get educated and empowered to educate and empower others within and without the church walls.
VI. Members who choose to stay as just members without growing, maturing and graduating into disciples, servant leaders and ministers to others, are ME-MINDED whereas disciples and servant leaders are OTHERS-MINDED.
Martin Luther King Jr. said, ‘Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR OTHERS?”
We must always teach our church members this truth: When God blesses you and raises you, don’t raise your standard of living only or first; also raise your standard of giving, liberality, generosity and adding value to the kingdom, and others including the people and places like the church that made you so you keep going higher in good works in line with 2 Corinthians 9:8 and Matthew 5:13-16.
